Muhammad Bin Rashid, Approved the Large Scale Project ‘’Metro Blue Line’’


With the emerging growth of residents and visitors in Dubai, Muhammad Bin Rashid, PM and Vice President of UAE confirmed the Metro Blue Line Project to provide people with comfortable yet easy transportation facilities.

The majesty Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, hold his hands on the Metro Blue Line project, that is planned to be a 30 km metro route linking to 14 different stations of the city to fulfil the needs of emerging number of users that are near to 1 million as stated in the Urban Master Plan of Dubai 2040

Sheikh believed that the investment done on this project aligns with the strategic scheme of better development of the city so that the current needs can be fulfilled as well as it can be helpful for the future of the residents. Additionally, Sheikh highlighted that the National talents working in this project proved that their revolutionary ideas will add another step of excellence and success in the development of the city. 

As stated by Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid, ‘’Remarkable achievements are not the results of luck or chance, there’s a combination of critical thinking, commitments made to high stages of leadership and hardwork. 

The true meaning of success lies in the reality of what positive impact you’re having on society. Our core mission is to do efforts for the best for our society providing the high standards in all matters.’’

The majesty has put forward the orders to implement the project immediately while focusing on the high standards to provide the community with better experience of this demographic expansion. The project is expected to be completed in 2029, right with the Dubai’s Metro’s 20th anniversary. 

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum initiated this project in the ceremony arranged at Dubai Creek Harbour. Sheikh said that, following the briefings of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai is fulfilling its commitment for producing world class projects that are not only concerned with the city’s standards in the global world but also reassures that its high grade infrastructure aligns with its developmental goals.

Overview of Metro Blue Line

The Blue Line Metro is hitting the skies with its success as being the first ever metro route to cross Dubai Creek following a 1300-metre viaduct. The total length span of the Metro will be ranging from 30 km, running around 14.5 km above the ground and 15.5 km underground. 

With interchange stations including Creek Station on the Green Line, Dubai International City Station 1, Centrepoint Station on the Red Line and the iconic Dubai Creek Harbor Station, this blue line Metro is going to make a mark in the Metro Projects. 

Key Areas Metro Blue Line Will Cover

With origins from Dubai International Airport, Blue line Metro will cover almost 9 key areas including Mirdif, International City 1 and 2, , Al Warqa, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai Festival City. The travel distance between each of these stations will range from 10 to 25 minutes depending upon the situation. 

With 5 underground stations, Blue Metro Line is offering the capacity of almost 200,000 passengers on a daily basis in 2030 with the expectation of reaching 320,000 passengers by 2040.

5th Largest Metro Project 

The Metro Blue Line will be all set to join the group of metro red and green lines, Dubai Tram and Metro Route 2020 with being the largest project among them. 

Holding the award for the extension of the railway network from from 101 km to 131 km increasing the metro and tram stations to 64 to 78 making 67 stations for the Dubai Metro and 11 for the Dubai Tram. 

Area Coverage and Routes

This blue line will also cover one of the Urban centres mentioned in Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan known as Dubai Silicon Oasis Centre. 

The routes will start initially from the first route that will start from Creek Interchange Station located on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf. Moving on it will pass through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khor, before Dubai International City 1, which will be an interchange station. Then it will go to Dubai International City 2 and 3, continuing to Dubai Silicon Oasis and to the Academic City. 

On the second route, the blue line will take the start from the Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line located in Al Rashidiya. While passing through Mirdif and extending to Al Warqaa, it will end at Dubai International City 1 Interchange Station. 

Symbolic Station

With a stunning architectural design in Dubai Creek Harbour, this metro line is making the city well known for its transportation. According to resources this station will be designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), the most well known architectural team worldwide.

Compared to other Metro lines, the blue line will possess the largest underground interchange covering the area of 44,000 sq metres. The blue line will be constructed using the cutting edge technology to provide the users with the latest and secure experience. 

Economic Segment

As other metro projects were made to decrease the daily spendings, Metro blue line is also made for the same cause. While reducing the traffic congestion to 20% on its routes and increasing the value of land and properties near stations by up to 25%, this line is setting another example in the city. 

The Metro tends to be using almost 60% of the public transport of Dubai city and the remaining percentage is of buses and trams. Being able to achieve the punctuality of 99.7%, Dubai Metro is considered to be the top safest transport internationally making it the best of best development for Dubai’s economy

Art Show 

In the ceremony held, there was a live musical performance of an orchestra celebrating the metro blue line. The display showed 2500 drone’s flight with a 3D image of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum showcasing the journey of Dubai Metro from 2009 to 2023. 

Drones traced the path of the new blue line metro and this ended with great fireworks in blue and white shades.
